La fotografia in bianco e nero: il ritmo

La fotografia in bianco e nero è una questione di luce, di contrasti e di ritmo.
Quando scatto in bianco e nero cerco di identificare i passaggi tonali, le quantità di luce contenute nei singoli colori. Osservo spesso come la luce si riflette sui diversi materiali e nel comporre lo scatto sottolineo le linee di forza dell’inquadratura.
Amo la capacità narrativa del bianco e nero ed è una scelta stilistica a monte della fotografia che realizzo quando voglio raccontare semplicemente il fatto.
Tolto il colore rimane l’ossatura della storia.

Gli elementi grafici e prospettici creano il ritmo dell’immagine che è reso evidente dall’alternanza dei pieni e dei vuoti, dalle serialità, dalle forme geometriche.
Il ritmo tuttavia risiede nel cervello, non negli occhi. Non è esposizione di mere ricorrenze. Non è molto diverso dal ritmo sonoro. Il concetto è analogo. Il ritmo va prima intuito e poi visto. Spesso strutture e ricorrenze che poi razionalizzo al momento della composizione dell’inquadratura.

 

La direzionalità dello sguardo è un elemento fondamentale che dà significato alla fotografia ed è quell’elemento attorno al quale creo il mio ritmo compositivo.

Black and white photography is light, contrast and rhythm.
When I shoot in black and white I try to identify the tonal passages, the amount of light contained in the individual colors. I often observe how the light reflects on the different materials and compose the shot emphasize the lines of force of the shot.
I love the narrative ability of black and white which is a stylistic choice that I make when I want to tell only the fact.
Without the color remains the skeleton of the story.

The graphics and prospective create the rhythm of the image, that is evidenced by the alternation of full and empty spaces, from serialism, by geometric shapes.
The rhythm is in the brain of man, not in his eyes. It is not mere exposure of seriality. This I think. It is not very different from the sound rhythm. The concept is similar.
The rhythm goes first sensed and then seen. I often observe structures, that I rationalize at the time of picture composition.

The directionality of the look is a fundamental element that gives meaning to photography, and is the element around which I create my compositional rhythm.
